Prague – The government allocated an additional 20.3 million crowns for the Czech Republic's participation in the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, on the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for next year. So far, it counted on 290 million crowns. This follows from materials available to ČTK. Conversely, the budget for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will decrease by the same amount, i.e. 20.3 million, in 2026. Prime Minister Petr Fiala, along with other government representatives, will comment on the Czech Republic's participation in Expo 2025 on Thursday at a press conference during the international agricultural fair Země živitelka in České Budějovice.

According to the materials for Expo 2025, the reason for the budget adjustment is the need to secure funds for the construction of the national pavilion for the Czech participation in the exhibition. Expo 2025 will begin next year in April, and the schedule for the construction of the pavilion is, according to the document, extremely tight. "Timely transfer of funds is crucial to minimize the risk of late completion of the construction," the materials state.

Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský (Pirates) admitted at the end of June in the Chamber of Deputies that for the financing of the Czech participation in Expo, six million out of the planned 150 to 210 million crowns had been secured from external sources. The concept approved by the government assumes that external financing from municipalities, regions, and the private sector will make up two-fifths of the budget.

The construction of the Czech pavilion for Expo 2025 formally began on May 15 this year. The national pavilion will be built by the Japanese company Daisue. The architectural competition was won last year by Apropos Architects with a glass spiral. The pavilion's facade is designed from sheet sintered glass.

The exhibition will take place in Japan from April to October 2025, with its main theme being "Creating Future Society for Our Lives." Organizers expect that the exhibition will be visited by up to 28.5 million people.
