Vizovice (Zlínsko) - The Vizovice manufacturer of modular systems KOMA Modular had a turnover of 605 million crowns last year, which is 150 million crowns higher than the previous year. The company representative told ČTK today. The company producing residential, sanitary, special, and low-energy modules created the Czech pavilion for the World Expo 2015 in Milan. The costs for the construction, maintenance, and dismantling of the pavilion for Expo without the internal exhibition and operation amount to nearly 70 million crowns. The project was selected as the winner at the end of 2013. "After the trade fair, KOMA will dismantle the pavilion and transport it back to the Czech Republic. Thus, we will return the land to the organizers practically untouched within a few weeks. Other countries use concrete for pavilion construction - dozens and hundreds of cubic meters, while we only use a modular structure that will subsequently gain a secondary use and by its nature fulfills the essence of recycling,” said Jiří František Potužník, the general commissioner of the Czech participation at Expo 2015. As the general contractor, manufacturer, and builder of the pavilion, KOMA collaborated with the architectural studio Chybik + Kristof Associated Architects. "We discovered the architects from Chybik Krištof AA through our architectural competition aimed at students, which we regularly organized to popularize modular construction and architecture in the Czech Republic. We continue this tradition this year, when the competition will be part of the Modular Architecture Festival ModulArch 2015, which will take place in April in Brno, featuring the leading Chilean architect Sebastian Irarrazabal,” stated KOMA's marketing director Martin Hart. The construction of the modular pavilion for Expo had a positive impact on acquiring additional contracts, such as the construction of student dormitories in Paris and social housing in Hamburg. According to the managing director and owner of the company Stanislav Martinec, the construction of the pavilion for Expo is a logical continuation of the company's innovative efforts. "It fits into the growing mosaic. It continues the established trend of doing modular construction differently,” added Martinec. In its more than 20 years of existence, KOMA has built hundreds of modular structures around the world. In recent years, it has specialized in the construction of educational buildings, of which it has more than fifty in its portfolio. It also offers large-format Comfort modules or atypical City modules designed for public spaces, which have appeared at Designblok in Prague and in Plzeň during its presentation as the European Capital of Culture. The company's portfolio also includes blast-resistant containers and easily collapsible modules that can be used without heavy machinery as refugee camps or field hospitals. KOMA Modular currently employs 199 people. The entire KOMA group, which includes companies involved in renting modular units, representation in Slovakia, and construction of extensive modular complexes, employs 215 people, and its turnover last year was 670 million crowns.
