Velenov (Blanensko) - Velenov in the Blanensko region is preparing to build the tallest lookout tower in Moravia, which is set to begin next year. It will cost approximately 20 million crowns and will measure 65 meters. In good weather, visitors will be able to see the area from Mount Praděd in the Jeseníky Mountains to Vienna and the Alps. The tower will include a restaurant offering local specialties and simple homemade meals, said Velenov's mayor Jan Havelka to ČTK today.

"Due to the project, we had to change the land use plan. We will now apply for a building permit and subsequently for European grants," he stated.
The steel structure with three viewing platforms will be built on Stojan Hill in the Drahanská Highlands. The municipality is collaborating on the project with the Boskovicko microregion. It obtained its share of the investment needed for the project through the sale of its forests.
The mayor emphasized that the Velenov tower should be unique in appearance to become a tourist attraction.
Currently, there are about 85 lookout towers in Moravia. Approximately a quarter of them were built in the past five years during the lookout tower boom.
Town halls are investing in these structures in an effort to revive tourist interest in well-known natural sites. The newest tower is located near Drnovice, close to Vyškov. Each project represented an investment of between 2.5 to five million crowns. Therefore, the Velenov lookout tower will be the most expensive among them. It will likely be named Velenka.
The highest viewpoint in Moravia is located on the transmitter situated on Mount Praděd. The structure measures 145.5 meters, with the observation platform at a height of 70 meters, and it is owned by Czech Radiocommunications.
