Prague - The leadership of Prague will today present the results of the one-year trial operation of the Blanka tunnel complex. It was opened on September 19 last year. According to statistics from the Technical Administration of Communications, up to 85,000 cars pass through its busiest section daily. Blanka alleviated traffic in some parts of the city while worsening it in others, according to a survey among the affected municipalities. The construction cost Prague 43 billion koruna.
Blanka relieved areas such as Prague 1, Smíchov, or Prague 7, municipalities reported. Following the opening of the construction, traffic decreased on Milady Horákové Street, Argentinská, Veletržní, along the embankment of Captain Jaroš, and on the Nusle Bridge. Conversely, the tunnel worsened traffic conditions in Prague 6 and in some parts of Prague 8. According to information from ČTK, the leadership of Prague also intends to present traffic measures today that could improve the situation.
Deputy Mayor Petr Dolínek (ČSSD) stated this week that Blanka is an "orphan," as it lacks its continuation and other related constructions.
Blanka complemented the city ring with the Zlíchovský, Strahovský tunnels, and Mrázovka. The inner city ring further consists of a part of Strakonická Street, the Barrandov Bridge, and nearly 17 kilometers of the Southern Connection and Štěrboholská Radial. There remains to complete a set of three constructions in the eastern part of the ring at the segment Pelc-Tyrolka - Balabenka - Štěrboholská Radial and the so-called Libeň Connection. However, their construction has not yet begun.
