Kladno - The Czech Technical University (ČVUT) is planning to gradually launch a research center in the Dříň area near Kladno, which was previously part of the Poldi steelworks. The university is expected to take over the building in December, with a completion inspection planned for March. Antonín Lupíšek, a research worker at ČVUT, informed ČTK. Scientists will investigate how to reduce the energy intensity of buildings in the complex worth 672 million. The scientific and research activities of the center will focus on sustainable construction, particularly through the use of innovative technologies, new materials, and renewable energy sources. The main mission of the center is to promote energy-efficient buildings that are environmentally friendly in the market. The research center will feature three unique facilities. These include a thermal chamber where scientists will be able to construct full-sized houses and simulate conditions such as extreme heat or cold. There will also be an environmental microscope for material research and an artificial Sun, which will allow researchers to address energy production issues related to the Sun. "By January, operations should gradually start, and devices will be installed, with full operation expected by early summer," Lupíšek stated. The construction of the scientific center began last October. The university aims to collaborate with the largest domestic companies at the research center. According to previous information, it will include firms such as ČEZ, Metrostav, and Skanska. "We have many partners in negotiation," Lupíšek confirmed. According to estimates, around 80 people could work in the scientific park. However, the number of employees depends on the sustainability of the project, and it could reach up to around 130. The center will be located in Buštěhrad, with four faculties of ČVUT participating in the research. There are several scientific centers in the Central Bohemian Region, mainly around Prague. For example, a scientific center focused on engine research and development is expanding in Roztoky near Prague. In Dolní Břežany near Prague, a laser center is being established, and in Vestec near Prague, a biotechnology and biomedicine center is being created. The construction of the mentioned scientific centers will amount to a total of 4.5 billion crowns.
