Znojmo – The construction of a covered swimming pool for 285 million crowns has started today near the Loucký Monastery in Znojmo. The winner of the tender, a consortium of companies IMOS Brno and Metrostav DIZ, has committed to building the pool within two years. Workers are currently carrying out major earthworks, which will be the main activity for the rest of the summer and autumn before the foundations are laid. The total area of the complex, which will also include a wellness and fitness section, will be 2,216 m², stated the mayor of Znojmo, Jakub Malačka (for ČSSD), in a press release.
"With today’s day, a vision that has been talked about since 2014 is being fulfilled. We did not underestimate anything during the preparation and discussed everything with experts, swimmers, and the public," said Malačka. The construction of the new pool has been supported by more than 100 municipalities from the surrounding area and will serve the whole region. The costs will be covered by the city’s own resources, grants, and a bank loan.
Visitors can look forward to a swimming hall with an eight-lane swimming pool, a relaxation pool, and a children’s paddling pool. The second above-ground floor will feature a wellness area with several types of saunas, a steam bath, and a Kneipp path, as well as a multifunctional fitness room. The building will also include an entrance hall with a reception and café, changing rooms, restrooms, and an administrative area.
