Zlín - A student video mapping festival called Maska will take place at the Baťa Institute in Zlín on Thursday. Projections projected onto the facade of building 15 in the former Baťa factory area will start at 21:00, and the festival will conclude two hours after midnight, said Michaela Mitáčková, spokesperson for the Baťa Institute, today to ČTK. The event is being held for the third year and is organized by the regional gallery of visual arts in conjunction with the Hucot civic association and the University of Zlín.
The competition is international this year as well as last year. "The project Digital Identities from Austria has applied to the competition, and Xavier Roig from Spain will sit on the jury. We are very pleased with the interest from beyond our region's borders and are grateful for it," stated Dušan Sviečka from the Hucot association.
Students will be projecting on a surface measuring 69 by 9.5 meters, with the image created using five projectors; according to Mitáčková, this is one of the largest permanent video mapping surfaces in Europe. The works will be evaluated by a professional jury.
This year's edition includes an interactive afterparty following the projections, organized by students from the Digital Design studio at the Zlín Faculty of Multimedia Communications. "At the afterparty, you'll have the chance to experience what it's like to be a VJ! An interactive video controller will be available, allowing you to control the video projection in real-time during a musical performance," Sviečka mentioned.
Video mapping is increasingly appealing to young artists. It is most commonly used to enhance cultural events and festivals, but it has also found its place in advertising.
