Slaný (Kladensko) - In Slaný, Kladensko, a renovated Vinařického street was opened today. The reconstruction cost over 31 million crowns, which is about four million more than originally anticipated. Ivo Rubík (ODS), the mayor, said this to ČTK. Due to archaeological findings and issues with a broken sewer, the reconstruction also took about five months longer. The repairs were part of the first phase of the revitalization of the city's historical center, into which the city wants to invest a total of 300 to 400 million crowns. The repairs were primarily related to the modernization of utility networks and the road bridge. Due to unexpected archaeological finds, the city had to increase investments, which will allow people walking through the renovated street to see, for example, the foundations of the Prague Gate or the so-called barbican that previously provided better protection of the entrance gate from enemies. According to Rubík, increased investments were also directed towards the lighting of the bastion, which is part of the fortifications where artillery was concentrated. The bridge itself and the restored statue of Saint Anthony of Padua are also newly illuminated. Other changes compared to the original plans concerned the terrain under the bridge. The revitalization of the historical center will continue next year with the reconstruction of the pedestrian zone in Husova Street, which is estimated to cost around 43 million crowns. "A tender has been announced. I expect that the work could start in the spring," Rubík stated. New sidewalks, roads, street lighting, and sewage systems will be created in the pedestrian zone. The city hall also expects problems with archaeological finds during this reconstruction. A team of architects led by Jaroslav Sýkora prepared the study for the revitalization of the center for several years. Experts divided Slaný into 22 sections that will be repaired gradually. No one has significantly reconstructed the streets of the historical core for a long time. According to the architects, traces of the last reconstructions are more or less unkind interventions in the urban heritage zone and introduce foreign materials or inappropriate elements of urban furniture into it.
