Valašské Meziříčí – Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín region will begin the renovation of its square this summer. It is expected to be completed next year, and the project will cost 62 million korunas, spokesperson for the town hall Jakub Mikuš informed CTK in a press release today. After the renovation, the square will have new surfaces, furniture, a water feature, a drinking fountain, and greenery.
"The necessity of revitalizing the square has already been discussed by our predecessors at the town hall. I am glad that we managed to bring this plan to a successful conclusion and that we will finally begin the long-awaited and necessary repairs this year," said Mayor Robert Stržínek (ANO).
The town hall divided the project into two years due to the complexity of the work and financial costs. "Now we still need to procure a contractor for this renovation with projected costs of 62 million korunas. This amount includes, among other things, the construction of new underground container sites for municipal and separated waste, timelines, and stopping T. G. Masaryk in the central area of the square, as well as the necessary rescue archaeological survey," the mayor stated.
The plan includes paving the roads and hardened areas of the square with granite tiles and cobblestones. "The project also includes the creation of a water feature and a drinking fountain. Existing maples and the Christmas tree will be complemented by eight mature trees, and, of course, new furniture in the form of benches, trash bins, and lighting will not be missing," said Deputy Mayor Yvona Wojaczková (ANO). The square, which is part of the city’s heritage zone, is 110 meters long and approximately 60 meters wide.
