Turnov

Turnov - Workers in Turnov are finishing the reconstruction of the former orphanage into a town hall for more than 60 million crowns. The exterior work is practically finished, and the interiors are being completed, said Mayor Tomáš Hocke (Independent Block) to reporters today. Everything is expected to be completed by the end of November at the latest, with officials moving into the new town hall in January next year.

"In December, there are no available moving companies and agendas are also being finished in the individual departments," Hocke stated.

The reconstruction of the former orphanage on Skálova Street, which previously also housed a secondary school dormitory, began last August. It is a complete reconstruction, with only the outer walls, part of the roofing, and horizontal structures remaining from the original building. Outside, only the sidewalks around the building are left to be completed. "Since equipment is still moving around, we don't want to damage them," the mayor said. Inside the building, most of the work in the basement and the top two floors has been completed; the first and second floors remain. "These are mostly aesthetic matters," the mayor added. According to him, for example, ceiling panels are being installed, doors are being fitted, PVC is being glued to the floors, and tiles or cladding are being placed on the stairway.

Once completed, Turnov will have officials in only two locations: the old and the new town hall. Currently, officials are working in four buildings. The town hall expects that consolidating officials will reduce operating costs and improve office management. Officials will vacate two buildings on Skálova Street. One of them will be used by the museum, while the other is being offered to the state by the city. The new town hall on Skálova Street will house the municipal police, administrative, social, education, transportation, and trade departments, as well as the registry office and departments for crisis management and offenses. The new town hall will also include facilities for official vehicles and parking for visitors to the office.
