Prysk - In Prysk in the Českolipsko region, the demolition of the former nature school and the adjacent administrative building has been completed. A space for relaxation should be created in their place, and possibly an exhibition of the Lusatian Mountains in the future. The demolition costs were initially estimated by the designers at 22 million crowns, of which the municipality received five million from the Ministry of Regional Development. However, the buildings were ultimately demolished for a fraction of that estimate. After a public tender, which attracted 26 companies, the price was reduced to 2.8 million crowns without VAT, Mayor Jan Sviták (Independents) told ČTK today.

The area of the nature school was established in Prysk in the 1970s next to the old school. The long-unused buildings of the nature school and the administrative building were purchased by the municipality from private owners a few years ago for about three million crowns. "We were concerned that a hostel for the socially disadvantaged might be established there, and that would be a serious problem for the municipality," said Sviták. Therefore, according to him, the municipality preferred to go into debt to acquire the buildings. Ultimately, the demolition of the buildings cost the municipality just under a million crowns, with the remaining costs covered by a grant. "We didn't expect that at all," said Sviták.

However, there is a question mark over the fate of the old school, the foundations of which, according to Sviták, date back to the 18th century. The municipality initially wanted to preserve it and use it for community activities. However, it turned out that the building is in very poor condition, and preliminary estimates for its reconstruction are running into tens of millions of crowns, which the municipality cannot afford. "So it might be cheaper to demolish it and build a new, smaller structure in its place,” he noted. However, this will be decided by a new council that will be elected next year, according to Sviták.

The demolition in Prysk was the largest action of its kind in the Liberec Region, financed by a grant from the Ministry of Regional Development allocated for the demolition of dilapidated buildings. In total, the ministry allocated 90 million crowns for such demolitions. Support was granted to 37 projects in 11 regions, with the highest number allocated to the Olomouc Region. In the Liberec Region, five projects received grants totaling 29.3 million crowns. Successful applications included, in addition to Prysk, Jablonec nad Nisou, Josefův Důl, Chrastava, and Nové Město pod Smrkem.
