Přerov - Reconstruction of the five-story administrative building Emos in TGM Square is starting in Přerov, which will be transformed into the city hall over the next 22 months. This will be the largest reconstruction in the modern history of Přerov, with costs amounting to 359.5 million crowns. The construction will be carried out by the Prague company VCES, which won the contract in a public tender. The city obtained a grant of 167 million crowns from the State Investment Support Fund for the renovation of the building. According to grant conditions, the property must serve its purpose by 2026. This was reported today by representatives of the city hall to ČTK.
"We will start the work next week, initially it will be preparatory work so that our employees can operate at the construction site. There will be between fifty and eighty of them there. During the first half of the year, we will then have demolitions in the building," said Jiří Cetkovský, the deputy production director of the construction company VCES.
Around 6,000 tons of rubble are expected to be removed from the site, which will be used for further recycling. "It will mostly be concrete, but it can be assumed that there will be asbestos in the roof, which will need to be handled according to regulations differently," Cetkovský said. The builders will use the back section on Jateční Street for both supply and removal of rubble, so the square's traffic should not be burdened in the first phase. According to Deputy Mayor Vladimír Lichnovský (ANO), the operation will affect Jateční Street and subsequently the Míru Bridge, after which the company must restore the roads to their original condition.
Residents of Přerov will feel the impact more in the next phase when scaffolding will be erected around the property, which will also extend into the square area. According to representatives of the construction company, the most demanding part will be the "dismantling" of the building's facade and the construction of a protruding staircase that will become part of the new facade. "We have a project for the building that was built in 1969, but as is often the case with these constructions, not everything corresponds to what was on paper. We conducted a thorough survey and want to believe that we won’t encounter any significant skeletons," added Ivana Pinkasová, the head of the investment department of the Přerov City Hall.
The reconstruction of the 55-year-old building is expected to be completed in the fall of 2025, with interiors being fitted out in 2026, after which officials will move into the building. About one-third of the total number of officials, approximately one hundred, will work here.
The architectural design of the building is signed by atelier gram. "This building will revitalize the city center. It will not only be used as a city hall; the ground floor will offer space for exhibitions, and there will be a terrace with a café overlooking the city – this will also bring new appeal to Přerov," added architect Jan Kudlička, who is behind the winning design.
