PRAGUE - In the near future, Prague will be able to boast a hotel that will have its own harbor. The hotel named River Terrace will rise in Prague's Smíchov near the Prague beach. In addition to immediate contact with the water surface, its other attraction is expected to be its focus on congress and social events.
A study conducted by Šafer Hájek Architects indicates that despite a temporary decline in tourism revenue caused by the economic crisis, Prague is increasingly positioning itself as a leading destination for hosting conferences, which brings higher revenue from additional services from the perspective of a congress hotel. Therefore, during the design of River Terrace, emphasis was placed specifically on the possibility of hosting conferences and other social events. The capacity of the main conference hall is approximately 550 people, which can be further expanded by the space of the adjacent restaurant into one large area. This restaurant has a capacity of approximately 200 people, with an area of 400 m². The conference facilities also include 6 small variably connectable halls, each with a capacity of up to 50 people, as well as a spacious foyer and smaller dining areas. This arrangement offers a plethora of usage options, including the possibility of hosting various events simultaneously.
An interesting feature of the hotel is its protection against potential floods. With the modernization of Smíchov, as well as other city districts of Prague, the flood protection system has been improved to prevent the extensive damage caused by the flood in 2002 from recurring. The hotel complex will also be protected from floods by the flood protection measures system. The protective barrier consists of a system of underground concrete walls and mobile flood barriers. In addition to protection against high water, the project also takes into account environmental aspects. The cool air for the air conditioning will be produced using underground water, which is abundant in the area due to the river. The same technological unit used in summer for cooling will then function in winter as a heat pump, providing a cheap and ecological source of heat.
