Prague - The results of the first year of a new architecture award, announced this year by the Czech Chamber of Architects, will be announced in Prague this evening. There are 63 buildings nominated, often including older projects created in the past five years. Finalists and the overall winner of the Czech Architecture Award will be selected today. From November 9, an exhibition in the DOX center will present all the completed projects that made it into the final selection.

The first year of the competition saw more than five times the interest from creators in participating compared to the established Grand Prix of Architects competition organized by the Architects' Association. This year, only 51 works were registered, which used to be approximately double that amount in the past. The winner was the reconstruction of the White Tower in Hradec Králové, worked on by the studio Chmelík&partners.

The organizer of the new competition, the Czech Chamber of Architects, states that it would appreciate a greater representation of projects funded from public resources. Less than half of all nominated works made it into the jury's final selection.

In addition to prominent names such as Ladislav Lábus, Josef Pleskot, Petr Hájek, and studios DaM architects, A69, HŠH, or Architects DRNH, the nominations also include less well-known authors. Several nominated buildings have previously been nominated for the prestigious Mies van der Rohe Award - the European Award for Contemporary Architecture.
