Pec pod Sněžkou (Trutnov Region) - In the center of Pec pod Sněžkou, workers are demolishing the Sněžka shopping center built during socialism. An investor wants to build a new complex with shops and apartments in its place. The mayor of the town, Alan Tomášek, said today that he considers the demolition to be one of the largest interventions in Pec in recent years.

"The whole building is slowly disappearing; only a fragment of some boiler room remains, and soon the rubble removal will begin,"
said Tomášek. According to him, it was agreed with the investor that demolition work will not continue on weekends when the most tourists head to Pec. The demolition of the store is expected to be completed in June.

According to Tomášek, an agreement with the investor has ensured a grocery store in Pec. "A temporary store has been set up on municipal land, and I must say it is nice and well-stocked with goods," he said.

In the center of Pec, according to the mayor, there are still several dilapidated buildings; besides Sněžka, the demolition of the Hradec guesthouse should soon begin. The town hall welcomes their revitalization. "It is crucial for us that these buildings are revitalized, and I think this project is architecturally very successful," said Tomášek.

The investor of the new residential and commercial complex worth a quarter of a billion crowns is Martin Kubík, the owner of a grocery store chain, who organized an architectural competition for the design. According to the plans, there should be a commercial floor with shops and services, parking, and four multi-story buildings with 88 apartments on the site of Sněžka. Today, ČTK was unable to contact Kubík, as he is abroad. "If everything goes well, the construction could be completed by the end of 2017, at the latest in the spring of 2018," Kubík was recently quoted by Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) in its edition for the Hradec Králové Region.
