Litvínov - In the socially excluded locality of Janov in Litvínov in the Most region, preparations are underway for the demolition of the second panel house. The city leadership is deciding whether to demolish the building on Hamerská or Gluckova Street. In the first case, the demolition would cost 32.6 million crowns, in the second 50.5 million crowns. Eva Hojdarová, the secretary of the Litvínov city office, told ČTK this.
After the removal of both apartment buildings, plans are in place for the landscaping and planting of trees in their place, the secretary indicated. According to her, the demolition could begin in the spring of next year.
The city has already had one panel house in Janov demolished this year, and three more demolitions are awaited. There are several houses that have been destroyed by their former tenants. Hojdarová does not know how many of such houses are exactly in Janov. They are not owned by the city, she added.
The Janov housing estate was built in the 1970s as modern housing primarily for residents of villages that disappeared due to coal mining. In the 1990s, the city sold the apartment buildings during privatization, and new owners began moving in problematic tenants.
