LIBEREC - The sculpture Chair by the world-famous sculptor Magdalena Jetelová is today placed for one year in Edvard Beneš Square in Liberec. However, the location and installation method do not please its author at all. "I was thrilled that the Chair would be in Liberec, but it deserves a place on the town hall steps. It is in a forward position and is coming down the stairs," Jetelová told ČTK today.

The author came from Germany, where she lives, due to the placement of the sculpture in Liberec. She was concerned that the chair would end up in a location she deemed unsuitable. However, that did not happen; the sculpture was placed in the prepared space next to the town hall stairs. "For technical, operational, and safety reasons, it was not possible to relocate the sculpture at the last minute. We do not rule out the possibility of seeking a new solution," said the town hall spokesperson Martin Korych.
The public is familiar with the chair from 2002, when it became a victim of the Prague floods and undertook an involuntary journey on the Vltava River. Its history, however, begins in 1981 when a smaller variant appeared at a sculpture and object exhibition in the courtyards of Malá Strana in Prague. A slightly larger replica has been sitting on the Vltava River in front of the Kampa Museum since 2003, and the original Chair is now traveling through Czech cities. Before the exhibition in Liberec, it adorned public spaces in Brno and Litomyšl.
Sculptor Magdalena Jetelová was born in 1946 in Semily and has lived in Germany since 1985.
