Approximately twenty prominent architectural figures from the Czech Republic and especially from abroad will meet in Liberec at the end of this week to dedicate two days at the local Regional Gallery to a theme that, although somewhat underrepresented in the media, may actually be more relevant: Architecture Outside the Centers.

At the conference, which will take place on March 14-15, 2014, and is already fully booked, the co-organizing Faculty of Art and Architecture of the Technical University in Liberec has managed to secure speakers of notable names.

“We greatly appreciate the participation of the renowned Dutch theorist and architectural historian Hans Ibeling, who will present on the intersections and connections of architecture in large cities and small villages over the past 250 years. I would also highlight the well-known architect John A. O'Reilly, who has an impressive portfolio of remarkable realizations not only in the Irish countryside,” says Radek Suchánek from the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the Technical University in Liberec.

The meeting of experts in Liberec will also be accompanied by an exhibition and publication Places of Architectural Influence. The project concept author Petr Volf has compiled a total of 109 selected buildings completed between 1990 and 2013 in the publication. His collection consists of highly publicized structures serving public purposes, for example in Litomyšl, but it also includes modest buildings such as chapels or extensions. The exhibition at the Regional Gallery Liberec, which will also feature presentations on the same theme from Slovakia and South Tyrol, will be on display until March 25. From March 26, all three exhibition projects will be presented at the Jaroslav Fragner Gallery in Prague.
