Lanžhot (Břeclavsko) - The town hall in Lanžhot, in the Břeclav region, will build a new funeral hall for 15 million crowns. In a town with around 3,700 residents, there is currently none, said mayor Ladislav Straka (independent) today to ČTK. The town will finance it from its savings. Construction is expected to start this year and finish next year.
The funeral hall will be built right next to the cemetery. "We don't have one, and funerals are held in the church. However, every second funeral is civil and people do not want it in the church," said Straka. Therefore, the town hall has dealt with funerals in such a way that the bereaved had to travel to nearby Břeclav or Hustopeče. However, residents are already inquiring about the new funeral hall. "They are asking us for it and wish for it because it would definitely have its use. That's why we want to accommodate them and be responsive," added the mayor.
According to him, the idea of building a funeral hall is older, but only now does the town have the funds for it. "We will not qualify for subsidies; we have to pay for everything ourselves. However, we do not need to take out any loans. We will use funds from our own resources that we have saved," Straka added. The town's budget annually hovers around 35 million crowns. The investment is now in the bidding phase. Once the town hall selects a contractor, construction can begin. The work will extend into the following year.
Lanžhot is located less than ten kilometers southeast of Břeclav. It is the southernmost town in Moravia.
