Jílové near Prague - The construction of a new food vocational school building worth 46 million crowns has begun in Jílové near Prague. Most of the costs will be covered by the European Union. The one-story building with classrooms, a gym, offices, staff rooms, changing rooms, and other facilities is expected to be completed by spring 2015. Currently, about a hundred students attend the Jílové vocational school. After the new building is completed, the school's capacity is expected to increase approximately threefold, said the region's spokeswoman Nicole Mertinová today. The construction in the vocational school's area was preceded in November by the demolition of an inadequate temporary building. The region received a grant of 39 million crowns for the new building, with the remainder covered from its budget. According to the principal Eva Hrušková, the school aims to introduce the most modern technologies into the new premises. "The field of food technology definitely offers good employment opportunities for graduates, and as our vocational school's facilities improve, I expect an increase in interest in our school," added Hrušková. Governor Josef Řihák (ČSSD) welcomed the fact that the school is being built from scratch. "It's easier and cheaper than renovating an old building," he noted. In the Central Bohemian Region, alongside schools established by the region and municipalities, there are also private schools of various sponsors and church schools. In total, nearly 1,300 educational institutions operate in the region.
