Jablonec nad Nisou

Jablonec nad Nisou - In Jablonec nad Nisou, the former headquarters of the worldwide men's association Schlaraffia is once again being demolished, the demolition of which was halted by the police in spring. However, the demolition order is now valid, the Liberec supplement of the Mf Dnes newspaper reported today. "The permit has become legally effective, so demolition can proceed. Everything is legally in order," said Jana Fričová, spokesperson for the Jablonec city council, to the newspaper.

In mid-May, the city claimed that although the owner of the chateau, MalinaSafety, had a permit, it had not yet become legally effective because the city council had appealed against it. The police were also involved in the matter, which assessed it as an offense against the building law. Thus, the regional office had to decide, which initially waited for the Ministry of Culture to assess Jablonec's renewed proposal to declare the building a cultural monument. "The proposal was rejected again. Therefore, on October 23, 2019, the Department of Urban Planning and Building Regulations issued a decision rejecting the city's appeal. The decision on the permit for the removal of the building is thus final, and the owner of the building is entitled to remove it,” Filip Trdla, spokesperson for the regional office, stated to the newspaper.

The chateau near the bus station was built in 1908 as the headquarters for one of the clubs of the Schlaraffia men's association. It was exceptional because this association usually only rented its premises. The building was constructed in a historicizing style. MALINA-safety acquired the land with the villa in 2006, intending to use it for expanding production, which the current building can no longer accommodate. In the past, the Ministry of Culture did not approve the monument protection, yet the city tried to save the building. However, the owner did not want to sell the structure on his property. The company proposed to leave the dominant front part with the tower and battlements, demolishing the rear part to build a hall for production and storage. However, no agreement was reached with the city.
