In Chýně near Prague, the construction of a new school begins

Chýně - The construction of a new multifunctional school for nearly 460 children is beginning in Chýně near Prague. It will include a library and a small cultural hall in one of the classrooms for holding various performances. The gymnasium will also serve for after-school activities. It will open in the next school year, on September 1, 2017. The mayor of Chýně, Anna Chvojková, said this today to ČTK. The current school is already insufficient due to the increasing number of students.

The population of Chýně has roughly tripled in the last ten years, and about 50 children are born here every year, so the capacity of the current school is already inadequate. "Given the current population trends, it seems that the school will mainly be used by children from Chýně, but the second stage will also be for surrounding municipalities," the mayor stated. According to her, children from Drahelčice, Jenč and other smaller surrounding villages will attend the second stage.

The municipality organized an architectural competition for the design of the school. Over 60 proposals were submitted, with the winning one prepared by a French team. On Wednesday, the municipality will hand over the construction site to the company that will build the school. The costs will exceed 170 million crowns, including the road and utilities. Approximately half of the costs will be covered by a grant from the Ministry of Finance.
