Chrudim - According to current business plans, the city of Chrudim may expand in the future by approximately 1,000 apartments and family houses. According to Deputy Mayor Petr Řezníček, this would likely stop the unfavorable demographic trend, where the city's population has been declining since the 1990s.
"During that time, we have lost about a thousand residents. Those who wanted to build housing here didn't have many options," said Řezníček.
As a result, many people have moved to surrounding municipalities, and the current building plans could reverse this outflow of residents. Developers, in fact, won’t have a problem selling the apartments, believes Řezníček.
One housing estate could arise in the former premises of the construction company Preming. The investor plans to build about 400 apartments in four phases here. Another location is available at Na Skřivánku, where 338 apartments are to be built, and additional constructions are planned in Píšťovy and the Presy area.
The Chrudim town hall sometimes hears criticism regarding the lengthy preparation of the zoning plan, which outlines and directs areas for housing, claiming it slows down construction growth. The preparations of projects are also delayed by the conditions imposed by the city, said Mayor Jan Čechlovský.
"It may seem that it takes a long time, but you can’t build recklessly without considering other circumstances," Čechlovský stated.
Consequently, the representatives stipulated, for example, the construction of transport connections, drainage systems, and flood protection measures in the Na Skřivánku location. In the case of residential construction on land behind the hospital, the buildings must correspond in height to the other houses. Buildings cannot exceed four stories, or have a stepped fifth floor.
