In Chomutov, a roof structure collapsed, injuring four workers

Chomutov - In Chomutov, the roof structure collapsed at a relaxation center construction site this morning. It injured four men, three lightly and one seriously, said police spokesperson Alena Romová to ČTK. All ended up in the hospital. Firefighters, paramedics, and police responded to the scene of the accident.
Police received reports of the incident at 10:20. For precautionary reasons, several dog handlers with specially trained dogs checked the area to rule out that someone was trapped under the collapsed roof. "Four dogs searched the rubble and found no one," said regional fire department spokesperson Lukáš Marvan.
The roof, measuring about 15 by 25 meters, collapsed on the premises. Rubble inside the building is visible through the windows. The dog handlers and firefighters have already left, and the investigation into the circumstances of the roof's collapse began in the afternoon. A heavy crane also arrived at the site.
The injured workers were taken by ambulance to the surgery department in the Chomutov hospital. "Three were treated on an outpatient basis for minor injuries and then released," said Jiří Vondra, spokesperson for the Regional Health. The seriously injured man is likely to end up in intensive care. According to Romová, he has head injuries. The spokesperson added that police are investigating the case for suspected bodily harm due to negligence.
The under-construction relaxation and leisure center in Chomutov is being built at the site of the former barracks opposite the ice rink. It is to include a swimming pool and other water attractions. The city council is funding the project through European sources.
