Havlíčkův Brod - A hotel with a conference center will be built in the former barracks of Karel Havlíček Borovský in Havlíčkův Brod. Zdena Stryková, spokeswoman for Ross Holding, said this today to ČTK. Ross purchased the area near the city center about three years ago from the city. Residential buildings are already under construction on the site. Planned investments amount to hundreds of millions of crowns. Apartment buildings are being constructed on the vacant land, with the first five structures set to be completed next year. The Villa Park Čechovka project, developed by the studio of Humpolec architect Luděk Rýzner, includes a total of eight apartment buildings. They will offer 113 above-standard apartments with spacious terraces and underground garages. The construction costs will be around a quarter of a billion crowns. Hotel rooms will be created in the largest building, which currently operates as a hostel. The conference center will include a cultural house and an adjacent administrative building. The construction of a hotel with a restaurant, pool, and additional relaxation facilities will cost 200 million crowns. An additional 25 million will be needed for the establishment of the conference center. Ross will try to obtain European grants for both projects. The cultural house has been home to the Čechovka club for three years. It hosts concerts and professional theaters. In the past year, these events attracted over 11,000 people, with this year's attendance estimated at around 13,800 individuals. Stryková noted that public programs will continue to be organized after the renovation of the cultural house. She added that the reconstruction will create better facilities - for example, soundproofing will be implemented in the building. The former barracks are located in a residential part of the city. The city council justified their sale by stating that it does not have the funds to revitalize the more than four-hectare area. Ross won the bidding process and paid around five million crowns for the barracks.
