Brno - In the building on Běhounská Street, which was vacated by Czech Television last year, there should be a restaurant and café on the ground floor, with offices on the upper floors. The company Swantonfield, which acquired the building at an auction for 81 million crowns, aims to offer administrative spaces that attract primarily young, emerging creative and technology firms, said director Josef Vojta to the Czech News Agency today.
The company does not plan a complete reconstruction of the listed building, but only necessary repairs and adjustments for new tenants. "It’s a great address and the genius loci of the originally bank palace. These are the prerequisites for something exceptional to arise here. We currently have a basic idea of what it should look like," Vojta stated. Although it will largely be a new office building, the new owners aim for it not to be closed off.
The goal is for people from the companies moving into the offices to have the opportunity to meet others from different companies. "We don't want to replace traditional co-working projects. We rather perceive the building as a space for young businesses that need their own offices but don't want to lose the chance to meet," Vojta explained.
Offices are to be located from the third floor upwards. The restaurant will be in the former banking hall with windows spanning two floors, offering a view of Jakubské Square and Špilberk in the background. On the second floor, which is connected to the main hall through a gallery, there should be spaces for meetings, including small meeting rooms, corners for sitting with coffee, and a larger conference room.
The building was constructed during the First Republic for a bank, and Czech Television moved in, just like to the neighboring Typos, in 1961. It served as a temporary solution for 55 years until the television relocated last year to a new studio in the Líšeň district. The Typos Palace was auctioned off before Christmas, and its owner is the company Magnum Mall, which has completed renovations of several buildings in the historic center of the city. Their plans have not yet been presented.
