A tribute to the First Republic architect Ernst Wiesner, where visitors can enjoy coffee. This is the café named Café Ernst, which was ceremonially opened on Friday, June 10, at 10 a.m. in the Stiassni Villa by the mayor of Brno and the general director of the National Heritage Institute. The interior of Café Ernst evokes the First Republic café Esplanade (on the corner of today's Roosevelt and Jesuit streets), which was designed by Ernst Wiesner himself.
The café was established directly in the Stiassni Villa building, in the space of the former kitchen. Its major added value will be a summer terrace on the loggia that opens to the most beautiful part of the extensive garden. It will be open in accordance with the visiting hours of the Stiassni Villa. The first guests can look forward to coffee on the weekend of June 11-12, when a special floral decoration will also be part of it.
The reconstruction was designed by the architectural studio RAW."The concept we created I would call a 'didactic café', where a guest can enjoy a coffee along with information about the life and work of Ernst Wiesner. Or conversely – with the coffee, they will receive information. In our work, we drew from period photographs of the Esplanade café, while also striving for the materials used to harmonize with the interior of the Stiassni Villa. I think, for instance, that we succeeded with the stone cladding of the bar," said architect Tomáš Rusín.
