Brno - In the Brno district of Bystrc, the former Letná shopping and community center on Černého Street is set to disappear after years of decay. The company B.Letná plans to replace it with a building featuring seven above-ground floors, which will include apartments, shops, a café, and other services or offices. According to the environmental impact assessment document, the investor intends to begin construction in the second quarter of next year, as discovered by ČTK from the EIA Information Portal. Bystrc Mayor Tomáš Kratochvíl (ČSSD) welcomes the investor's efforts.

Letná was built in the 1970s as a typical service and retail building in a housing estate. However, it has been deteriorating for 20 years, and discussions about its revitalization have been ongoing for five years. The investor initially wanted to construct a nine-story building, which was not well received by the locals. The project is now modified to include one underground and seven above-ground floors. "The investor had to modify the project due to the canceled update of the zoning plan. The area is currently unused. Revitalization and the opening of new spaces would be a benefit for Bystrc,” Kratochvíl believes.

The old building will be demolished by the investor; in the new one, in addition to commercial and administrative spaces, approximately 70 apartments for 170 residents will be created. There will be over 173 parking spaces available. If construction indeed starts next spring or summer, it should be completed in another two years.
Although the local area does not currently struggle with crime, problematic youth are being drawn here. "It attracts them, and they smoke there,” noted Kratochvíl. Additionally, there is an elementary school nearby.
