Brno - Workers at the Brno Exhibition Center have recently completed the rough construction of the largest exhibition hall in the Czech Republic and probably in Central Europe. Pavilion P, costing over 900 million crowns, is expected to be approved in May 2009, and just a month later, car manufacturers will exhibit at the Autosalon fair. Today, construction workers placed a six-meter Christmas tree on the roof of the pavilion at a height of approximately 16 meters - a counterpart to the maypole, which is traditionally erected on some rough constructions. Pavilion P is 214 meters long and 90 meters wide. It will offer over 10,000 square meters of exhibition space. Originally, it was supposed to cost around 800 million crowns, but due to some project adjustments, the price had to be increased by approximately 110 million crowns. "Even while it was under construction, some adjustments were made, and certain details were refined, as with every building," said the Deputy General Director of Brno Exhibitions, Kamil Trávníček. The construction itself will cost just under 750 million crowns. Additional costs were incurred due to the demolition of three original smaller pavilions that stood on the site of the current construction. In total, there will be 14 pavilions in the Brno exhibition area, including architecturally valued buildings like Pavilion A or Z, as well as newer structures from the 1990s - Pavilion V, F, or E. Brno fairs control approximately two-thirds of the domestic exhibition market. Their calendar offers over 40 events annually. Last year, the company reported a turnover of 1.766 billion crowns and a pre-tax profit of 92.4 million crowns. The positive economic result was primarily contributed by the International Engineering Fair, the Construction Fairs, and the Autosalon fair. In recent years, Brno Exhibitions have felt a shortage of quality exhibition space at these main events.
