Brno - On June 11, the second and third platforms at Brno's main train station will begin to be repaired, and from June 27, only one track will be passable between the main station and Židenice. Because of this, not all trains will operate to the main station, and on some routes, special schedules will be in effect with adjusted arrival and departure times, Jiří Sysel from Czech Railways said today at a press conference. Trains will return to their original schedules on September 12. The restrictions will not affect international transport and only minimally domestic long-distance transport.

The repair of the Brno station is already deemed necessary by Miroslav Konečný, the director of the Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) in Brno. “Repairs have long been postponed, waiting for a new station. However, it can no longer be delayed to keep the station operational and safe. The canopies are 80 years old, and the last repairs were done in the second half of the 1980s when the underpass was constructed,” Konečný said. New canopies, a boarding edge, and asphalt on the platforms will be replaced with paving stones featuring tactile strips for the visually impaired. The underpass will also be cleaned and repaired.

From the end of June, the bridge over Špitálka Street will also be repaired, meaning that only one track will be passable to Židenice. At the same time, passengers will experience service disruptions between the main station, Chrlice, and Křenovice. “We wanted to do more work at once,” Konečný said. The repair of the main station will cost 91 million crowns.

The disruptions will most affect trains between Brno and Tišnov, and Brno and Sokolnice. To prevent people from having to transfer from regional bus lines to replacement transport, routes 509, 610, 611, and 612 will be extended to the main station at Uhelná. At the same time, Czech Railways will deploy replacement buses xS2 between the main station and Chrlice. From July 4 to 18, they will be extended all the way to Křenovice.

Trains from Tišnov to Brno and Vranovice will be split into two parts. From Tišnov, they will continue from Židenice along the freight bypass to Modřice, skipping the main station. In Modřice, transfers will be possible towards Břeclav, which will be served from the main station. During the holidays, supplementary trains that typically fill the half-hour interval to a quarter-hour interval will also not operate to the main station. They will terminate at Královo Pole, from where people can take tram lines 1 and 6 with a Czech Railways ticket.

From July 7 to August 3, supplementary trains will run during peak hours between Tišnov and Královo Pole due to anticipated complications on the road between Kuřim and Brno. “The region decided to order additional trains to make commuting easier,” said Deputy Governor Roman Hanák (ČSSD).

On the line to Blansko, the disruption will only affect arrival and departure times due to restrictions on operations between the main station and Židenice. Similarly, the departure times of trains to Kyjov will change.

From July 15 to November, the track between Brno and Náměšť nad Oslavou will also be modernized. Therefore, all trains will be replaced by buses, departing from the viaduct towards Křenová.

According to Konečný, repairs at the main station will continue in the coming years to ensure its operation and the safety of the service.
