Jablonec nad Nisou - At the Mšeno dam in Jablonec nad Nisou, two more wooden structures with facilities for visitors will be added for the summer season, and there are also plans for a children's and workout playground. Since last year, there has been a snack stand with refreshments, toilets, and storage boxes for 12 million crowns in the U Prutu area. RD Rýmařov is currently building two more buildings here for nearly 19 million crowns. The seasonal snack and toilet building will be located by the dam, and on the opposite shore of the cove, there will be year-round toilets, said city spokesperson Jana Fričová to ČTK today.
The Mšeno dam is a popular bathing spot not only for the nearly 45,000 inhabitants of Jablonec but also attracts people from the surrounding area. On hot days, up to 5,000 people visit it daily. However, the facilities are inadequate, varied, and that is precisely what the city council has decided to change. The architectural competition for the new facilities was won in 2020 by Marek Přikryl from the Prokš Přikryl architects studio, with the idea of using wooden modules to give the facilities a uniform appearance.
"Currently, another stage is underway, during which a seasonal building will be created by the dam, including refreshments, toilets, changing rooms, places to store belongings, and an outdoor shower. In contrast, new toilets will be prepared for year-round operation at the Base on the opposite shore of the cove, where we also plan a pergola by the modified children's playground," added Deputy Mayor Jakub Chuchlík (Pirates). According to him, there will also be a workout playground next to the seasonal building, which was funded by the Jablonec company ABB.
According to Chuchlík, the construction schedule aims for the work to be completed before the summer season. "The construction of the U Prutu building involved a number of complications, which we have tried to avoid from the beginning in this stage. However, it also provided us with technical and user feedback that we incorporated into the implementation documentation of the current stage," said the deputy. According to him, the city also plans an architectural and construction clean-up of the area on the Tajvan peninsula before the summer season, which the city purchased from a private owner last year for 35 million crowns.
The architectural competition proposed solutions for four locations around the dam - U Prutu, at the Base, in the south by the dam, and in the north under the seat of the Elbe River Basin, whose location the city is currently negotiating with the basin authority.
