Ostrava - A parking house will start to be built in October at the Municipal Hospital in Ostrava. Thanks to the seven-story building, the capacity of the current parking lot will increase fourfold, offering 465 spaces. The parking house, which is expected to be completed in 2023, will serve not only the hospital employees but also the public. This was announced to journalists by the spokesperson of the city hall, Gabriela Pokorná. The construction costs will be 429.4 million Czech crowns, paid for by the city.
"The parking house will be a demanding construction project that will take more than two years; however, it is an important project that will bring parking capacity not only for visitors to the hospital but also, for example, as a replacement for parking in the area where the scientific library Černá kostka will soon be built. The start of construction has been delayed by four months compared to our initial estimate, due to problems in the construction market as a result of the COVID pandemic, which affected the inability of some companies to complete the project according to their original offer," said the investment deputy mayor Zuzana Bajgarová (ANO).
The parking house will have three underground and four above-ground levels. It will also include a pharmacy, retail space, and technical facilities. During its construction, alternative parking will be available at the Plato gallery. "From this temporary parking lot, people will be able to access through public transportation. We want to ask visitors to the area, especially to the hospital, to limit their entry by personal vehicles as much as possible in the next two years and to prefer public transportation. The entrance directly to the hospital grounds will remain accessible from Hornopolní - it will be used for ambulances and cars with patients who will need to enter due to their health condition," said the deputy mayor for transport Vladimír Cigánek (ODS).
Of the total number of 465 spaces, 27 will be for disabled parking and six will be designated for electric vehicle charging. The underground floors will mainly serve hospital employees, while the above-ground floors will be for the public. The parking house will also have spaces for storing 54 bicycles. It will be equipped with an electronic check-in system.
