Karlsbad - Three constructions have fully commenced in the KV Arena complex in Karlovy Vary. After the hall for ball sports and the health and safety center, work has finally started on the construction of an outdoor pool. In total, they will cost nearly 200 million crowns, said the mayor of Karlovy Vary, Petr Kulhánek, to reporters directly at the construction site today. According to Roman Maleček, the director of KV Arena, which will take care of all three constructions after completion, the most recently started construction is the outdoor pool. "Construction is proceeding as expected. The construction site was handed over two weeks ago. Earthworks are currently being done, removing soil that will then be reused. At the beginning of winter, we will bring in the networks and prepare the technologies. This should be completed in December, and earthworks will probably continue in March," Maleček stated. The 25-meter long pool will, similar to the ball sports hall and the safety center, be connected to the energy center of KV Arena. According to Maleček, this will allow maintaining the water in the pool at a temperature of 24 to 25 degrees throughout the season. The total cost of the pool is expected to be 22.6 million including VAT. The construction of the hall for ball sports is significantly further along with a cost of 118.8 million crowns. Almost 18 million has already been spent on it. The first walls are standing, and work is now mainly focused on the facilities of the hall, locker rooms, and offices, as well as earthworks. The project's capacity is 560 seated spectators. However, modifications to the project are being made to allow for an increase in capacity, for example, with a mobile grandstand. Currently, there is more interest in volleyball matches in Karlovy Vary than the planned capacity of the new hall. Earthworks are also ongoing for the construction of the health and safety center. The unique project, which is designed to prepare children for various risks, from transportation to fires and everyday life situations, will cost 51 million crowns, while the original project estimated about double that amount. All three constructions are largely funded by the Regional Operational Program Northwest as part of the Integrated City Development Plan. Karlovy Vary received a total of 420 million crowns for this. Thanks to savings, the city managed to include the outdoor pool in the original project plan, which was not initially included.
