Karlovy Vary – Karlovy Vary are preparing the construction of a new fifty-meter swimming pool with eight lanes. It is to be built behind the swimming pool center at KV Arena. The city wants to obtain a grant from the National Sports Agency; without it, they would not start the construction. An outdoor pool for recreation and competitive swimming with these parameters would be the only one in the region, said Miroslav Vaněk, the deputy mayor of Karlovy Vary (Karlovaráci), to journalists today.

"We perceive that the capacity for recreational swimming and competitive swimming in the KV Arena area is inadequate. It is overcrowded in the summer, and people simply cannot fit in there. Therefore, we decided to take advantage of the opportunity that the National Sports Agency will be issuing grants for the construction of outdoor pools," Vaněk stated.

Although the swimming pool center at KV Arena has an outdoor pool, it is small and has only three lanes for swimming. The new pool is to be built behind it. Currently, the city is having a study prepared for the pool's location, after which an estimated price should emerge.

Originally, the Karlovaráci movement went into the elections with the intention that such a pool could be built at the Rolava swimming area. However, after considering all the circumstances, the city leadership ultimately agreed that it would be more appropriate to place the pool next to the swimming pool center, thus utilizing the existing technology.

According to the city's plan, the KV Arena area and surrounding sports facilities are to gradually become the center of sports in the spa town. It already has ice rinks, swimming pools, a ball hall, and there is an athletic stadium nearby; this year, another multipurpose field is to be built here. In the future, the city would also like to acquire some buildings and land in the vicinity, such as the former Dukla football field, which is also within reach of KV Arena. The location could then serve as a single sports complex managed by one city organization, likely KV Arena.
