Turnov - Turnov is preparing another phase of the revitalization of the central park near Skálova Street and will attempt to obtain a European grant for it. The application will be submitted in June to the IROP program - Green Infrastructure. The city estimates the costs of revitalization at 22 million crowns, with the grant potentially covering about 40 percent. The mayor of the city, Tomáš Hocke (Independent Block), informed journalists about this.
The central park is one of the popular places in the fourteen-thousand-strong Turnov for spending leisure time, where many of the most visited events in the city take place. The latest event was a craft fair, which drew around 11,500 people the weekend before last. Nearby, there are a museum, city hall, summer cinema, Sokol building, Yellow Submarine Leisure Center, and primary and secondary schools.
The gradual revitalization of the park is based on an architectural study prepared by the city in 2015. So far, the passage through the Franciscan Garden and through the museum is completed, some paths have been paved, furniture has been added to the park, and due to the installation of a utility water supply, a stream flows through it, along with several ponds being created. The largest investment in the park to date has been the construction of a children's playground costing nine million crowns, which according to the mayor is widely used. "For example, teachers from Skálovka (Primary School) told me that children go to the playground even before school lessons or run there during lunch breaks," Hocke said.
In the upcoming phase, the city plans to build an irrigation system with a storage tank in the park to handle the increased load on the grass. "And this could also help that there will be more demanding floral decorations and other things in the park that require more care and especially water," the mayor said. He believes that this could take the park to an even higher level than it is now.
Part of the planned phase is also the replacement of some asphalt surfaces with paving, landscaping adjustments, and significant changes to the entrances from Pacltova Huta at Skálova and Husova Streets. In the area near Pacltova Huta, a so-called outdoor gallery with showcases for displaying artworks by students of the art school is planned to be created. There will also be chairs and tables added. The entrance to the park from Husova Street will be expanded with a new representative paved area, which will move the boundary of the park to the level of the adjacent residential building.
