Dvůr Králové nad Labem - Dvůr Králové nad Labem has another cultural monument. At the end of August, a factory chimney with a water tank in the former TIBA Zálabí textile plant became one. The Czech News Agency was informed today by the city hall spokesperson Miroslava Kameníková. The Ministry of Culture received a suggestion regarding this six years ago.

"Unfortunately, we do not know anything more about the individual who submitted the suggestion to the ministry, nor whether they are local. The structure in the area, which is owned by Slezan Holding, is one of the prominent features of the city and reminds of the famous industrial past of Dvůr Králové nad Labem," Kameníková told the Czech News Agency.

The chimney with the water tank was built in 1941 by the chimney-making family business V. Fischer and Co. from Letky and originally served the textile factory of Josef Sochor. According to the Ministry of Culture, it is a unique example at the national level, belonging to a specific subgroup of chimney structures. In the Czech Republic, 21 of the original approximately 50 have been preserved, with only two in the Hradec Králové Region.

"It is the highest chimney with a water tank in the Czech Republic, and its reservoir has the largest volume of any chimney water tank in the country, namely 300 cubic meters," Kameníková noted.

The 83-meter-high chimney has a conical shape, made of radial bricks, known as chimney bricks. The diameter of the structure at the courtyard level is 7.66 meters and 3.42 meters at the top. The brick chimney water tank takes the shape of a truncated cone, built on a narrower base and is placed on a reinforced concrete ring, supported by prominent ribs. "The chimney was decommissioned in 1969, and the water tank was in operation until 2007," said city hall representatives.

In Dvůr Králové nad Labem, there are more than 60 buildings listed as protected monuments. For example, in 2016, the Ministry of Culture declared the African safari area of Josef Vágnr in the Dvůr Králové Zoo a cultural monument.
