Tábor - Tábor is preparing the reconstruction of the old town hall building, which houses the Hussite Museum. The costs for the restoration of the building at Žižkov Square amount to 48 million crowns. Tábor has received a grant for the project from the Integrated Regional Operational Program, which will cover 90 percent of the costs. The reconstruction will include, among other things, the replacement of the roof, modernization of electrical wiring, and the renovation of the Gothic hall, which is among the most valuable spaces of its kind in the Czech Republic.

CTK reported on the project by the head of the investment and structural funds department of the Tábor city office, Karel Hotový.

"The Gothic hall is vaulted with a ribbed net vault. This space is one of the best-preserved halls of municipal buildings in the Czech lands. Some historians rank it in value just after the Vladislav Hall of Prague Castle,"
said architect Jan Stach from the Aska studio, which prepared the project documentation.

The city council has now approved the procurement process for the contractor. According to Hotový, work could begin in the second half of the year. "We expect it to last until 2020," Hotový said.

The interior reconstruction will mainly focus on restoration work aimed at enhancing the artistic elements of the building. In the Gothic hall, a new heated floor will also be installed. "A new initiative will also be the accessibility of the attic spaces, where it will be possible to demonstrate the possibilities of craft techniques in different historical periods," Hotový said.

The old town hall was built between 1415 and 1421. Its current form is based on the neo-Gothic reconstruction by architect Josef Niklas from the 1870s. Since 1962, the building has been a national cultural monument. The last extensive reconstruction of the building took place in the 1980s.
