Prague - The Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) has applied for a zoning decision for three sections of the planned modernization of the railway between Prague and Kladno, with a connection to Václav Havel Airport. The state organization informed about this in a press release today. The reconstruction of the entire line is estimated to cost around 31 billion crowns.
The submitted applications concern the planned modernization of the sections Prague-Bubny - Prague-Exhibition Ground, Prague-Ruzyně - Kladno, and Kladno - Kladno-Ostrovec. Currently, SŽDC is preparing tenders for the development of documentation for building permits for these sections. For the operationally complex section between the Prague stations in Dejvice and Veleslavín, SŽDC is now holding meetings to prepare documentation for zoning procedures. This year, the organization decided that the section should be underground.
"I am glad that we are getting closer to the zoning decision on several sections, which is one of the most important milestones for linear constructions. Next year will be crucial in terms of permitting processes, and I firmly believe that we will manage to find reasonable compromises between public interest and the interests of the owners of the affected land," said the General Director of SŽDC Jiří Svoboda. According to him, the organization is responding, among other things, to the dynamic development of air transport in the Czech Republic and the investments in infrastructure that Prague Airport is preparing for the future.
SŽDC has divided the entire line into seven parts, which will be implemented independently. Currently, work is only being done on the Negrelli Viaduct.
Talk of modernizing the line to Kladno and building a railway connection to the airport in Ruzyně has been ongoing since the 1990s. The new connection is to be electrified, operated on two tracks, and should enable trains to run to the airport and Kladno at ten-minute intervals. In the future, a high-speed line from Prague to Dresden could also lead to the airport. The feasibility study is currently addressing the possibilities of this line.
