Šumperk held protests against the people, and the new hypermarket will not be built

Šumperk - A new Interspar hypermarket will not be built in Šumperk for now. City councilors listened to the protests of people from the Temenice district, who would have the store just a few dozen meters from their homes. Therefore, they rejected the change of the zoning plan and did not allow the investor into the city. Supporters of the store are disappointed. Interspar was supposed to replace the old dilapidated boiler house, writes today's Central Moravian supplement of Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD).
    "We repeatedly proposed that a hypermarket should not be built in this area, because construction would devalue the living conditions in the vicinity. It is good that the city has stood by our side against the interests of a multinational company," said spokesperson for the civic association Senová, which protested against the construction, Petr Horák.
    Mayor Zdeněk Brož (Independents) claimed that for a long time nobody knew the actual size of the planned complex. "Such a complex evidently devalues the price of family houses and flats built nearby by the company Fortex," Brož stated. A representative of the company Agile, which builds hypermarkets for the Interspar chain, Miloslav Uhlíř, promised to construct noise barriers, green barriers, and a nature park. He did not rule out financial compensation for people living nearby. However, he was unsuccessful with the councilors.
    The zoning plan does not foresee a hypermarket in the area. This zone is residential and mixed. Besides apartment buildings, only educational, cultural facilities, or small shops and small premises for small businesses can be built here.
    Not all people in Šumperk protested against Interspar. Many welcomed that the store would remove the decaying boiler house used by a local entrepreneur for many years as a parking lot and storage. However, it went bankrupt, and the boiler house was put up for auction. But the company Agile is likely not going to proceed with it.
