Prague – The Central Bohemian Region plans to renovate the listed building of the Secondary School of Engineering in Mladá Boleslav. The property owned by the region will be insulated and the heating source will be replaced. Annually, the school could save up to 370,000 crowns on energy costs. The region could receive European funding for 40 percent of the hundred million costs for the renovation. The proposal will be discussed by the regional councilors at their next meeting, Zuzana Žídková from the regional office informed ČTK.
The Mladá Boleslav Industrial School is a regional contributory organization. The Central Bohemian Region manages a total of 280 contributory organizations and owns approximately 2,200 properties. Of these, 181 are schools and educational institutions, more than 70 percent of which are located in properties that fall under the regional ownership.
Last year, the region began the inventory of its properties, starting with the contributory organizations in education. "The inventory means detailed recording of all regional properties. Unfortunately, no system existed until now, and it was very difficult to manage the properties appropriately. The inventory project will allow us to make the management of properties and land owned by the region clearer,” said the councilor for investment, property, and public procurement, Libor Lesák (ODS). Last year, the region carried out the inventory for 40 organizations from the districts of Prague-West, Mělník, and Kutná Hora, with the remaining districts to be completed this year.
The Secondary School of Engineering in Mladá Boleslav was founded in 1867 as one of the first vocational schools in Czech territory. Initially, it served only apprentices and craftsmen, and before World War II and in the first decade after it, it was the only specialized technical school in the republic. Currently, it has approximately 400 students.
