The construction of the Primary School of Jan Vodňanský in Prague's Holešovice district could begin in 2024. The city council of the seventh municipal district announced a competition for its construction. It will be in two phases, with projects in the first round to be submitted by March 25, 2022. Deputy Mayor Pavel Zelenka (Prague Yours) said this at today’s meeting of the Prague 7 representatives. The building will accommodate up to 540 children and will be located on the site of the former Přadelní Street. The school is needed due to the planned construction on Jankovcova Street and its surroundings.
"The competition was announced today as it was sent to the public procurement bulletin. I expect that it should appear on the buyer's profile in about two days, before the sent material appears in the public procurement bulletin. De jure, however, today’s date will mark the start of the competition," said Zelenka.
The competition will be in two phases, and the expert committee will evaluate, among other things, the quality of technical and economic solutions or the aesthetic and functional quality of the proposed building. Applicants for the first round should submit their proposals by March 25. The second round will then take place in June. The city council has allocated 3.45 million crowns for prizes, with the winner receiving 1.2 million CZK.
"We expect that the planning should start this September. The preparation of all documentation and obtaining permits should take 24 months," Zelenka said. The exact timelines will depend on the course of the public competition. Construction could begin in the fall of 2024.
The school building is intended to form one of the corners of the block in the future. The cost of the actual construction, excluding equipment and project preparation, is estimated at 500 million crowns. There will be two outdoor playgrounds the size of a handball and volleyball court next to the school. Inside, there will be a gym, a gymnastics hall, and a kitchen with a dining room capable of preparing up to one thousand meals. The kitchen will also have the capacity to cook for another school in case of emergency.
The original name of the school was to be based on the former Přadelní Street. It was named after the writer, songwriter, poet, and theater artist Jan Vodňanský by the city council last March. Vodňanský was born on June 19, 1941, and passed away last March.
