České Budějovice – The precise condition of the roof of the České Budějovice swimming pool, the reconstruction of which the city plans possibly for tens of millions of crowns, will likely be known to the city hall only in the summer. It will be determined by an inspection of the built inspection holes. This was stated to ČTK by the director of the sports facility of the city of České Budějovice, Tomáš Novák. The roof of the pool has long been damaged primarily by condensation.

"Based on the summer inspection of the roof, it was recommended to create additional inspection holes in it. Their construction is subject to building permits. Currently, project documentation for this is being developed. I expect that the additional inspection holes will be completed in June, and then a complete inspection of the steel structure of the roof can be carried out," said Novák.

Although the extent and schedule of the work are not yet known, the city hall leadership admits that the reconstruction will close the only indoor swimming stadium in the regional city for some time. The sporting public has therefore been calling for the construction of a second swimming facility for a longer period, which may not need to have a fifty-meter pool like the current one.

The city began preparing the roof reconstruction two years ago. The stadium, which is a cultural monument due to its atypical architectural form, has been repaired by craftsmen in several phases from 2015 to 2019. Work each time limited operations for several weeks to months. Initially, the reconstruction involved the insulation of the pool, followed by the laying of new tiles in two phases and the construction of a whirlpool. Most recently, two years ago, craftsmen repaired the showers and toilets.
