Prague - Besides the National Film Archive, the State Printing Works of Securities has also expressed interest in the protected building of the Žižkov Freight Station. The mayor of Prague 3, Vladislava Hujová, told ČTK in an interview that the printing works would consolidate all its operations in the building and would also establish a museum of banknotes and printing presses. Both institutions would occupy nearly two-thirds of the unused station, she stated. Discussions about the possible takeover of the building are ongoing. Deputy Mayor Matěj Stropnický (Troika/Green Party), who is involved in the discussions about the future of the station, questioned the intention. "According to the memorandum, the station should serve cultural and educational purposes, which I believe is incompatible with the security measures of the State Printing Works of Securities," he stated in response to ČTK. "The negotiations are at a very early stage and given the number of owners, they will probably be very complicated," said the printing works spokesperson Lenka Šustrová. "The repair and further use of the freight station is a priority for us," insists Hujová. "At the moment, we are having a study prepared to analyze the traffic burden that the station and the planned construction around it will generate," she added. This will also determine the direction of further negotiations with the owner of the land adjoining the station, where the Discovery Group intends to build an administration center. Last year, the municipality filed a lawsuit against the planned construction. The local opposition, led by councilor Ondřej Rut (ŽnS), claims that the mayor is negotiating to withdraw the lawsuit in exchange for cosmetic changes to the project. However, the mayor denies this. "It is a gross lie," she asserts. According to her, the lawsuit is still valid. However, the municipality's position has reportedly been complicated by the March decision of the Ministry of Culture, which affirmed the validity of the positive decision of the municipal conservationists. "We expected the ministry to side with us," she added. The Discovery Group plans to build a large shopping center with offices, apartments, and parking spaces for 6.75 billion. The first phase of the project will affect land covering 140,000 square meters. Nearby, the company Žižkov Station Development, owned by Czech Railways and Sekyra Group, which owns the protected building of the station, also intends to build.
