Špindlerův Mlýn

Špindlerův Mlýn - The largest Krkonoš mountains resort, Špindlerův Mlýn, has recently announced a third tender for the contractor of a new bus station. The previous two tenders ended unsuccessfully for various reasons. The construction of the bus terminal, costing up to 12.5 million crowns excluding VAT, could begin in the summer and should be completed within 12 months at the latest. This information was obtained by ČTK from the profile of the contracting authority, the town of Špindlerův Mlýn.

Špindlerův Mlýn, which attracts thousands of tourists in both winter and summer seasons, has been waiting for a modern bus station for many years. Buses currently depart from an uncovered asphalt area at the end of the parking lot near the Hromovka cable car station. In an older building that no longer meets current needs, passengers only have access to a waiting room, while drivers have a small room for rest.

The planned station building will have approximately 120 square meters and is expected to include restrooms, a waiting room, facilities for bus drivers, and two rooms for information and light refreshments. The building will feature two covered bus stops for arrivals and departures. In the event of future demand due to increased traffic, it will be possible to add two more stops, Mayor Vladimír Staruch (For Our Špindlerův Mlýn) previously stated to ČTK. The construction will take place on city-owned land next to the parking lot at Hromovka.

The town canceled the first tender for the new terminal in February this year, as no construction company applied. Two construction companies from Vrchlabí submitted bids for the second tender, but the town hall had to exclude them from the competition. Neither of the companies adhered to the maximum price of 12.5 million crowns required by the town. Each company exceeded it by several hundred thousand crowns. According to Staruch, the applicants probably misread the tender requirements. For the now announced third tender, the town retained the maximum price of the contract at 12.5 million crowns.

The town hall has been trying to build a bus terminal for nine years. However, it has not succeeded in obtaining a building permit for the project estimated at 30 million crowns.
