Brno - The Brno Regional Court will decide today whether architect Jan Sapák must apologize for statements made about the company Omnia, which won the tender for the renovation projects of the Tugendhat villa. He also competed for the contract but was unsuccessful and subsequently labeled the competition as manipulated. He compared the competitor's project to the plastic surgeries of American singer Michael Jackson.
Sapák has repeatedly stated that the winning company's project is too expensive and radical. Omnia claims that this and other statements have harmed its reputation. The architect, who was unsuccessful in the tender, is now relying, among other things, on a ruling by the Supreme Administrative Court (NSS), which confirmed that there were errors in the selection process.
The Tugendhat villa is the only Czech monument of modern art listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its renovation was supposed to begin in 2002. However, due to numerous disputes among experts and politicians, it has not yet started.
