Sokolov - Sokolov will apply for a building permit for the construction of a new library, which according to the plan is to be a Multifunctional Information and Educational Center for Sokolov. The city has also already approved the purchase of land from the health station, next to which the library will be built, Sokolov's Deputy Mayor Jaromír Dvořák informed ČTK today.

"The purchase of land will not be an expensive matter, it is in the tens of thousands of crowns," said Dvořák. The construction plan has already passed the approval of the Karlovy Vary Region Office from the perspective of environmental impact. "The plan will not be further assessed according to the law. The notifier may request the necessary permits from the relevant administrative authorities," informed the spokesperson of the regional office, Andrea Bocková.
"Preparation will continue to be worked on. It is one of the priority investment projects in this election period," said Dvořák. According to the study, it is an area with a built-up area of almost 2900 square meters with parking for 40 cars. The five-story building is to include a café with a summer terrace and garden, a gallery with a free selection of books on another floor, the library itself, as well as a lecture hall for 100 people and administrative facilities.
Specific costs will be addressed only after the detailed project is developed, but the estimated costs may reach up to 150 million crowns in the most extensive variant.
The multifunctional library is one of the initiatives for which Sokolov wants to apply for grants from the European Union. If it succeeds in the first wave, it could be completed by the end of next year. However, this will depend on when the first calls for grant applications are published. Co-financing from its own sources can be ensured by Sokolov from its own reserves.
Another project for the construction of an educational facility is also awaiting European grants in Sokolov. The Regional Integrated Secondary Technical and Economic School has prepared a project for its reconstruction and expansion to accommodate departments moved from Královské Poříčí.
