Slaný - The town of Slaný in the Kladno region is looking for new uses for the former district house. One possibility is a library; the town hall will address other ideas with residents and is preparing a questionnaire survey and discussions. The renovation of the building could cost tens of millions of crowns. Martin Hrabánek (ODS), the mayor of Slaný, told ČTK.

The former district house has been unused for a longer period. There is also a social hall that the town wants to possibly renovate as early as next year. "The council approved the plan to reconstruct the ceiling; it will naturally depend on the city budget and whether we receive a grant,” the mayor stated.

Recently, the council postponed the original plan to use the building for the needs of the Václav Štech Library in Slaný. One of the reasons was the anticipated economic burden of operation. However, it is not ruled out that the city will return to this proposal.

The building on Wilsonova Street was completed in 1902. The neo-Renaissancestyle structure was designed by architect Jan Vejrych, and sculptor Antonín Popp contributed to the sculptural decoration of the interior. In the past, it housed the District Office of Slaný.
