On Thursday, December 15, the first public event of the four-year cultural project Shared Cities: Creative Momentum will take place at the Goethe Institute. Under the title Publishing 2.0, a public debate will be held in the newly opened space Foyer² featuring three experts from Germany and the Netherlands, co-organized by the reSITE organization. They will discuss with Czech representatives from the field, bloggers, and the general public on how to innovatively communicate about architecture and the issues of cities and sharing in today's world using words, images, and multimedia. On the same day, the Prague branch of the Goethe Institute will open Foyer², a shared space for creative work, a lounge for cultural events, and a meeting area in the center of Prague. At Foyer², ideas, refreshments, and one of the most beautiful views of Prague Castle will be shared. The transformation of the hall on the second floor of the secessionist building of the Goethe Institute was architecturally designed by the exceptional Berlin studio ifau. The Shared Cities: Creative Momentum project is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union. How to communicate about architecture and public space?
The Shared Cities project, which aims to improve the quality of life in European cities through sharing, will begin in Prague with an open discussion titled Publishing 2.0. It will highlight new roles and opportunities brought about by the digital age. “In the 21st century, the difference between authors and readers is blurring. Images and content are created and shared at an enormous speed. Traditional magazines and media are confronted with bloggers and other spontaneous platforms, creating endless space for interaction,” explains architect Osamu Okamura, representative of reSITE. The panel will feature Lukas Feireiss from Berlin, an author and curator working at Studio Lukas Feireiss, Anne König, editor at the prestigious Spector Books publishing house in Germany, and Hans Oldewarris, publisher at 010 Publishers in the Netherlands. They will share the latest trends and discuss with invited experts and representatives from leading media and publishing houses from the Czech Republic. The discussion will be moderated by curator Helena Doudová, who will ask what new roles and opportunities exist for publishing about architecture and cities in the changed media landscape. Presentations and discussions will be held in English.
Launch party Shared Cities & Foyer²
On the same day at 8:00 PM, the opening of the Foyer² hall and the launch party for the Shared Cities: Creative Momentum project will follow, attended by architect Christoph Schmidt from the Berlin architectural group ifau – Institute for Applied Urbanism – which is behind the transformation of the second floor of the exceptional secessionist building of the Goethe Institute into the shared idea space Foyer². The execution and design were created in collaboration with the Prague start-up Master&Master.
The unique urban space Foyer² was created as part of Shared Cities: Creative Momentum. This purposeful cultural project brings together eleven partners from seven European metropolises and aims to improve the quality of life in European cities. In Belgrade, Berlin, Bratislava, Budapest, Katowice, Prague, and Warsaw, it explores various perspectives on sharing and creating cities, while discovering new possibilities for living in them.
