Semily - The Semily town hall does not want an ordinary supermarket to be built on the land in the city center. The councilors have tasked the board to negotiate with a development company about the construction of a commercial, social, and cultural center. Semily's mayor, Jan Farský, told this to reporters today. "The city can influence the new look of the location because we own the edges of the land where the construction is planned. We do not want to dictate anything to the investor; rather, we would like to inspire them with our ideas,” stated Farský. Originally, a supermarket was supposed to be built on the site of a dilapidated factory. According to Farský, the town hall is responsible for the appearance of the nine-thousand-strong city, and an unsightly large retailer is not suitable for the area near the Jizera River. Currently, there are four supermarkets in Semily. According to Semily councilors, salaries in supermarkets are below average, and another large retailer would further worsen the position of local entrepreneurs. Additionally, new shopping centers complicate transportation in the city.
