During Monday, October 16, and Tuesday, October 17, always from 11 AM to 7 PM, those interested in history and architecture will have the opportunity to become acquainted with the implementation study of the project Memorial of Silence.
The initiative arose from a selection procedure, in which Studio ARN emerged as the winner. The design is the culmination of a three-year effort to create a new form of a site of memory, from where transports of Prague's Jews departed between 1941 and 1945.
The public will be able to view the vision of the Praha-Bubny train station after its revitalization into a cultural crossroads and educational platform for major themes related to Prague's history, the city's identity, and contemporary reflections on serious social phenomena.
In the exhibition space of the former Electric Works, an exhibition titled NEW STATION BUBNY will be installed, which will present the basic theses of the future exhibition, the architects' intentions, and the first interventions into the public space of the city, implemented by the future Memorial team at the site of memory during the project's development.
On Monday, October 16, at 7 PM, the concept of the memorial will be ceremonially presented by the head of the authorial team of the winning studio ARN, architect Jiří Krejčík. The opening will be attended by the Mayor of the Capital City of Prague, Adriana Krnáčová, the Deputy General Director of SŽDC, Tomáš Drmola, the Councillor for Urban Development of Prague 7, Lenka Burgerová, and members of the expert jury of the selection procedure.
The director of the Bubny Memorial, Pavel Štingl, offers professionals the opportunity for guided tours of the exhibition in the mornings from 10 AM, by prior arrangement.
The costs of reconstructing the Praha-Bubny train station are estimated at 125 million CZK. The project is being financed through private donations and the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. The Prague City Hall is also contributing to the financing of the investment. The project is prepared for reconstruction in the second half of 2018, with the opening of the memorial planned a year and a half after the commencement of construction work.
The exhibition will open on the anniversary of the first Jewish transport from Prague, which will traditionally be commemorated with Bubnování pro Bubny. The public happening with a serious story begins at 5 PM in front of the Bubny train station building. More information HERE.

From the text of the winning proposal by Studio ARN:

The memorial in our design refers to the moment of indifferent silence that enveloped Prague during the deportation of Jews. This silence, which is not the silence of forests and meadows, but the silence of fear, indifference, and apathy, is embodied here in a "stone" immobility. The structure stands here and remains silent.
The more than twelve-meter-high space of the entrance hall is filled throughout its height with a large number of concrete petrified books. This abstract memorial library has the atmosphere of a temple wall, on which sunlight falls obliquely, fully portraying the structure and diversity of the books, reminiscent of fifty thousand life stories.
